Alessio Puntin

Alessio obtained his Master’s degree in Functional Genomics from the University of Trieste. During his studies, he developed a strong interest in molecular and cellular biology, with a particular focus on ubiquitin-mediated regulation of cellular processes. For his Master’s thesis, carried out in the Molecular Genetics laboratory of Prof. Germana Meroni, he investigated the role of the E3 ubiquitin ligase TRIM32 and its involvement in cellular differentiation and the regulation of primary cilium dynamics.

Since February 2026, Alessio has been working as a Research Assistant in Papa’s Lab. His current research focuses on targeted protein degradation approaches applied to the viral factories of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).

Outside the lab, he enjoys cooking, often experimenting with new recipes, reading, and spending time by the sea whenever possible. He also enjoys working with his hands, whether fixing things around the house (and possibly the lab!).
