We are driven by a shared passion to unravel the complexities of viruses and develop innovative antiviral strategies
We are a growing team of researchers, that share our love for viruses. We aim to uncover how viruses hijack cellular machinery to replicate and develop technologies to interfere with these processes. Together, we thrive in a vibrant environment where learning and excellence are at the heart of everything we do, enjoying our time in the exciting city of Milan.
Did you know that Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a major cause of respiratory illness in infants and young children worldwide?
Our mission is to delve deep into the mechanisms orchestrating the replication of this virus and develop strategies to halt its spread. Despite the high incidence, effective vaccines for RSV are still in developmental stages, and currently, there are limited therapeutic options available. RSV viral particle is composed of a single-stranded RNA genome that encodes for several proteins, crucial for its ability to replicate and infect host cells. This genome is also prone to mutations, which can lead to the emergence of new strains with potentially higher virulence or resistance to existing therapies. The virus’s clever mechanism of replication and its ability to subtly change its genetic makeup complicates efforts to control it effectively. By studying RSV’s viral life cycle we aim to uncover how this virus replicate inside the cell and explore new therapeutic opportunities, ultimately reducing the burden of this virus on global health.
